There are many roulette theories regarding how you should play the game of roulette. You will also find that a lot of books or other publications are going to tell you that the game of roulette is a game in which you throw money away since the odds are just too great for the house. This is for the most part very true. The game of roulette is a game of chance since the spin of the wheel is completely random. The Croupier is going to toss the marble in the opposite direction of the wheels spin to make the momentum the marble needs to keep going around the wheel. Because if this, the Croupier cannot designate the winning number, unless of course they have rigged the wheel, but most casinos are legitimate, so you need not worry. Some casino roulette players have been lured into thinking this type of roulette strategy will work, but it will not, like most roulette strategies. In the roulette pattern stratergy, popular amoung roulette players, some believe there is a pattern to the numbers the marble will land on to determine the next number. They will watch the play to see what numbers are popping up on each spin. When they have watched for an hour or two they will begin to bet, on the basis that a pattern exists. For example they may notice the number red 5 is hit on five times during the course of their watch. Thus, they will enter in the game the next time they believe a red 5 will appear. Most of the time they are incorrect and lose quite a bit. This roulette stratergy is mostly used at land based casinos.

As previously mentioned, in the first paragraph the movement of the marble is random. The only thing that would cause one number to always get hit on with more frequency to establish a pattern, is if the wheel is rigged or the wheel is on a tilt, rather than being even. Thus, there cannot be a pattern for you to study. It is a waste of time.

Instead of looking for a roulette strategy to win, you should concentrate on learning the rules of the game of roulette. Once you know the rules and how to bet you can have more success. Although, you should remember that the odds are greatly in the house favor.

There are several types of bets on a roulette table. The probability on these bets will change depending on the bet you place. As a general rule, the outside bets will have a high probability for winning, thus, a lower payout. This can be good for the roulette player since you can win money slowly over time with more success than you would have by betting a straight bet. A straight bet in roulette is betting on one number out of the 37 or 38 slots. While the return is 36 to 1 the chance of getting a win on that bet is close to zero.

Roulette is all about chance, but you can eliminate some things, like a high house edge or improbable bet by avoiding the American wheel and betting wisely during the rounds.
